Text:2 Kings 5:1-16
Summary:Naaman was a successful army commander from Aram who was stricken with leprosy. When raiders captured a servant girl from Israel, she told Naaman’s wife that there was a prophet in Samaria that could heal Naaman. He secured permission from the king to go visit Israel. The group first stopped to speak with the king of Israel, and he was distressed because he thought the group was asking him to heal Naaman. Elisha told the king to send Naaman to him. As Naaman reached the door, Elisha sent his servant with these instructions: wash seven times in the Jordan River. These directions seemed too disgraceful for Naaman, so he left in anger. His servant reminded him that he would have done something great if Elisha commanded, so why not something small? Naaman went back and followed the directions, and was healed! He tried to reward Elisha, but the prophet excepted no gifts.
Discussion Starters:• Why was Naaman angry with Elisha? • Why do you think God does unexpected things in our lives? • What do you think God might have planned for you?

Text:2 Kings 4:1-7
Summary:A wife of a prophet that had died sought help from Elisha because creditors were about to take her two boys as slaves. Elisha asked how he could help and what the widow had in her house. The widow replied that she had nothing except a little oil. Elisha told her to ask her neighbors for empty jars. Then she and her sons were to go inside, shut the door, and poor oil into all the jars until each is full. The boys kept bringing jars, and the widow kept pouring until there was not a jar left. She told Elisha and he told her to sell the oil to pay her debts; the remaining money was for her family to live on.
Discussion Starters:• What do you think the widow was thinking when she heard Elisha’s plan to help her?
• What do you think God wants you to do for people in need?
• How does God help us when we are in need?

Text:Acts 17:16-31
Summary:While in Athens, Paul was distressed by the prevalence of idols in the city. He debated with Jews, Greeks and philosophers. Some dismissed him, but others invited him to one of their meetings for an introduction to Paul’s teachings. He told them that the “unknown God” they worshiped was the God who made the heaven and earth, the God who needs nothing and lives in no temple, the God who made man and determines their lives. We are God’s offspring, and He is not an image of man’s design. He commands people to repent before the day when the world will be judged by Jesus, who is proven by his resurrection from the dead.
Discussion Starters:• What is wrong with worshiping idols?
• What do you think Paul did when he saw the idols the Athenians worshiped?
• What do we know about God that we could tell other people?
